The Research Council of Norway

The Research Council of Norway serves as the chief advisory body for the Government and government ministries on research policy issues, and distributes roughly NOK 10 billion to research and innovation activities each year.

The Council works to enhance the quality of Norwegian research and to promote innovation and sustainability. We take active steps to increase Norwegian participation in international research and innovation activities, and expand cooperation between research groups, trade and industry and the public sector. We also provide a platform for dialogue between researchers, users of research and research funders.

The Research Council provides advice on how and in which areas to target investments in Norwegian research efforts. We have been charged with strengthening the knowledge base and encouraging research that can help to solve the Grand Challenges. The Research Council of Norway works to add value to the research system by facilitating research that actors in the system could not successfully achieve working on their own.
