The Extended Academic Senate of TU Berlin elected two vice presidents in its session on 24 January 2024. The regular term of office of the second and third vice presidents ends on 31 March 2024. The term of office is two years.
Christian Schröder was re-elected for a second term as vice president for education, teacher training, and continuing education (33 votes in favor, 17 votes against, 1 abstention).
The committee elected Professor Dr. Fatma Deniz as vice president for the responsibilities of digitalization and sustainability (45 votes in favor, 5 votes against, 1 abstention). She is head of the Chair of Language and Communication in Biological and Artificial Systems at TU Berlin.
About Christian Schröder
Christian Schröder studied history and mathematics at TU Berlin. He was a member of the Academic Senate’s Teaching Committee from 2003 to 2022, serving as head of the Committee from 2008 to 2022. During this time, he actively supported the further development of the University’s degree programs.
A key focus of his work was establishing the Faculty of Engineering at the Turkish-German University in Istanbul. From 2012 to 2022, he was responsible for coordinating the MINTgrün pre-study orientation program, the largest program of its type in Germany. Christian Schröder has been vice president for education, teacher training, and continuing education since 1 April 2022.
He is the spokesperson of the dghd network Orientation Study Programs in Germany, a member of the Round Table on Study Dropout, a reviewer for numerous applications for teaching innovations and teaching awards, and has published articles on various aspects of the further development of studying and teaching. Outside of his work at the University, Christian Schröder has been a voluntary trainer with Technisches Hilfswerk, a largely voluntary civil protection organization, since 1998.
About Fatma Deniz
Fatma Deniz studied in Munich and Pasadena (USA). She completed her doctorate in computer science at TU Berlin in cooperation with the Berlin Bernstein Center for Computational Neuroscience (BCCN). Her field of research spans neuroscience and computer science. From 2013 to 2020, she conducted research at the University of California, Berkeley in the USA.
She then returned to Berlin and, in April 2023, was appointed head of the Chair of Language and Communication in Biological and Artificial Systems at TU Berlin. Her professorship is funded by the Berliner Chancengleichheitsprogramm (the Berlin Senate’s equal opportunities program). She is a member of the Berlin Bernstein Center for Computational Neuroscience (BCCN).
Fatma Deniz is involved in the Berlin University Alliance, the Alliance of Excellence formed by FU Berlin, HU Berlin, TU Berlin, and Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin.
