Elettra Sincrotrone TriesteArea Science park, and INFN, in collaboration with ATTRACT, are presenting the Workshop-Hackathon "Ideas from the Young" event to be held in Trieste, Italy, on April 19-20, 2018.

This event aims to attract young talent to brainstorm together societal challenges of tomorrow; to look into how to respond to these challenges; and how to solve the problems using detector and imaging technologies for the future. This 4th ATTRACT "Trends, Wishes and Dreams" differs from the previous TWDs in the sense that it focuses more on the societal needs instead of starting with already defined technologies.

The submission opens on December 8th, 2017 and ends on February 15th, 2018.

Interested participants are first invited to submit a max 1-page Letter of Motivation (see "Background Material for Students" on Main Page). It needs to contain the following information:

  1. Short (max 10 lines) description of what societal challenge ("topic") would be worth addressing by 2025, and how detection and imaging could perhaps help to contribute to solving it.
  2. Why you would like to join a cross-disciplinary team to address the above challenge and in what way(s) you think you could contribute towards developing new approaches or tools to address the challenge ("topic").
  3. What you would expect to achieve at the workshop in Trieste.
