Plymouth University and local and national partners have been awarded EU funding of £2.7 million to improve the use of ehealth in the ‘Ehealth Productivity and Innovation in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly project’ (EPIC).
EPIC will bring together multiple healthcare stakeholders in the region to determine the best uses of the internet, online applications, software and robotics in healthcare. In addition to supporting small technology companies and emerging start-ups, over £600,000 will be available to clinicians and patients to test and implement innovative ideas. Funded by the European Regional Development Fund, the EPIC project will run for three years.
The university will organise 10 local groups around Cornwall and work with them to identify problems in health and social care that have possible technology solutions. It will work with project consortia to develop their ideas and if appropriate apply for funds to support implementation of individual projects.
