European University alliances have proven to be useful tools for deepening European cooperation in education and research. But their funding and governance has been an ongoing headache for many.
Each transnational university alliance gets up to €14.4 million in EU funding for four years, to be shared among all the partners. While this may seem like lot of money, it is rarely sufficient to meet these projects’ ambitious goals, which include developing integrated study and mobility schemes, and the notoriously challenging business of setting up joint degrees.
