Belgian RTO had the most funding from the last three research programmes, but companies took part in the most EU projects

With the inauguration of the European Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (ESMC), the EU is trying to gain momentum and build its semiconductor value chain. While this is likely to be a long and expensive process, research in semiconductors has been a part of the EU Framework programmes for many years. In the last three programmes, between 2007 – 2024, participants in projects associated with the semiconductor research topic have received around €2.7 billion for over 1,179 projects.
The biggest winner over this time was the Interuniversity Microelectronics Centre in Belgium, better known as IMEC. The research organisation has received €136 million for 95 projects, of which 20 were as coordinator. …
