The training scheme for EU researchers does not need a competitiveness-driven overhaul, says alumni association leader Mostafa Shawrav

Calls are mounting for the Marie Skłodowska Curie Actions (MSCA) to be given more independence under the next EU research Framework Programme. The idea, first proposed last year by the CESAER university association, has now been taken up by the group that represents alumni of the researcher training scheme.
“We should really go with an independent model,” said Mostafa Shawrav, executive director of the Marie Curie Alumni Association, in an interview with Science|Business. “It could be similar to the European Research Council. It could be different.”
