Flemish Deputy Prime Minister Ingrid Lieten has opened two new buildings on the Arenberg Science Park and underlined the importance of the science park for the future of Flemish and international technology.

The founders of the science park are KU Leuven, the City of Leuven and Interleuven, and all the partners are highly conscious of the crucial link between research and entrepreneurship.

The science park is located Leuven’s campus at Arenberg, the UZ Leuven Campus at Gasthuisberg and the microelectronics research centre, IMEC. The 13 hectares park consists of several clusters. The two new research buildings provide 12,500 m2 of spece in addition to the two existing centres on the park.

Another building being developed by the cluster Bio-Incubator Leuven NV is specifically designed for biotech companies. The first stage of 4,000 square metres of laboratory space at Bio-Incubator 1 is already complete, Bio-Incubator 2 will be ready in 2012, followed by a third stage.
