The grandfather of technology commercialisation, BTG plc, made further progress with its plan to focus on medical innovation, announcing the completion of the sale of its portfolio of radio frequency identification patents for US$3.8 million.

The London-based company announced previously that Zebra Technologies Corporation, of Vernon Hills, Illinois, was acquiring some of the patents with the option to acquire the rest, in a deal worth $5.8 million

“This divestment is in line with our strategy to exit and realise value from our non-core technology areas whilst expanding and developing our pipeline of medical products,” said Louise Makin, CEO.

In a related move, BTG earlier sold its WebNav online tracking patents for $5 million.
