Collaboration

Danish chewing gum manufacturer Fertin Pharma A/S has agreed a collaboration with the US Army Dental Research and Trauma Detachment to develop an antimicrobial decapeptide medicinal chewing gum to treat and prevent plaques, cavities, and gum diseases.

The collaboration will combine the army’s proprietary antimicrobial decapeptide with Fertin’s know-how to create a chewing gum that will deliver a controlled release of the decapeptide.

The decapeptide can control plaque-associated oral infections, including dental caries and periodontitis, and the Army is keen to incorporate it into standard military field rations.
