it2b, a spin-out of the Politecnico di Milano, is seeking to raise €1.5 million to fund development of its electronic patient record and tracking system.

President Luca Canepa, speaking at the "Meet the Spinouts" conference on 8 March organised by Library House and sponsored by Science|Business, said the company's wHospital system was designed by a group of bio-engineers in collaboration with practising hospital doctors and nurses. The system is allows paperless filing and archiving of patient records, plus tracking of clinical care, in hospital settings.

Its first installation was in 2006, and this June the company plans to install the system in three additional hospitals. It has raised more than €320,000 since its founding in 2002, with most of the money coming from the Lombardy regional investment fund. The additional fund-raising now in progress is for up to 30 per cent of the company's equity.
