Dutch company fluXXion BV, a microfiltration technology specialist, closed a €6.4 million led by the cleantech venture capital firm Emerald Technology Ventures with the Capricorn Cleantech Fund and WHEB Ventures. Existing investors Koninklijke Philips Electronics NV and Mr. S. L. Hui followed on.

fluXXion Chief Executive Officer Thijs Bril said, “This injection of capital from knowledgeable partners puts us in a great position to accelerate the growth of our business.”

Founded in 2003, fluXXion designs, assembles and sells microfiltration modules for liquid bulk filtration.

“fluXXion has built up a significant expertise in the area of microfiltration,” said Gianni Operto, Partner at Emerald Technology Ventures. “[It has] combined proven methods from the semiconductor and micro systems industries to a rapidly emerging market with a variety of applications”.

At the core of the technology are the silicon-based microsieves produced with advanced manufacturing techniques adapted from the semiconductor and microsystem industries. The inherent material properties together with the production process result in extremely high specific fluxes and exceptional filter accuracy at the same time.

Initial target markets are in the dairy, beverage, ink and biotech industries.
