European science going Down Under

The European Union has announced pilot schemes aimed at bringing European and Australian and New Zealand researchers closer together.

The EU’s COST (Cooperation in the Field of Scientific and Technical Research) has expanded its geographic reach, announcing new pilot schemes to bring European and Australian and New Zealand researchers closer together.


The new schemes provides for up to 40 travel grants of around €2,500 each to supplement travel and subsistence expenses for European scientists travelling to New Zealand or Australia, and scientists from the two countries travelling to Europe.

The New Zealand Scheme will hand out 20 grants focusing on six priority areas: medical and health research; agriculture; forestry; biotechnology and food; nanotechnology; information and communications technology; and environment and climate change.

Meanwhile, the Australian scheme focuses on five priority areas of medical and health research; agriculture; biotechnology and food; nanotechnology; information and communications technology; and environment and climate change.
