Cambridge to get new biomedical campus

Planning permission has been granted for the development of 70 acres of land next to Addenbrooke’s Hospital on the southern fringe of Cambridge to provide 2.3 million sq ft of biomedical research and development facilities.

Planning permission has been granted for the development of 70 acres of land next to Addenbrooke’s Hospital on the southern fringe of Cambridge to provide 2.3 million sq ft of biomedical research and development facilities.

The Cambridge Biomedical Campus looks set to become one of the leading centres for medical and biomedical research and development in Europe. Nine research institutes are already on the site including Cancer Research UK Centre, the Wolfson Brain Imaging Centre, the Cambridge Institute for Medical Research, the Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Facility, and the University of Cambridge’s School of Clinical Medicine.

Planned buildings include a new Laboratory of Molecular Biology for the Medical Research Council. In addition, Papworth Hospital has also announced its intention to relocate to the site.
