Researchers at the University of Granada have developed a carbon aerogel for absorbing organic solvents such as benzene, toluene and xylene. The material is able to trap and retain these aromatic hydrocarbon pollutants until they can be removed safely. The aerogel itself can then be reused.
The research was carried out by David Fairen Jimenez from the Department of Inorganic Chemistry working with Carlos Moreno Castilla and Francisco Carrasco Marin.
A unique international forum for public research organisations and companies to connect their external engagement with strategic interests around their R&D system.
