Isle of Man sponsors local companies at International Space University

The Isle of Man government is to support the island’s space and technology industries by sponsoring executives from Manx companies to study on courses at the Alsace, France–based International Space University (ISU).

The move builds on the established links between the Isle of Man and the ISU and follows the formation of the new International Institute of Space Commerce on the Island, which will be a key element of ISU’s new  programme developments.

Tim Craine, Director of Space Commerce for the Isle of Man Treasury said: “The Isle of Man already has the largest ISU alumni community in the world and we would like to build on this by working with the university on the allocation of the financial support we give. In this way we can encourage Manx firms wishing to send people to attend ISU’s professional development and executive training programmes by having a portion what we give available to cover their tuition costs.”

Chris Stott, chairman of local satellite company ManSat and Isle of Man Government Honorary Representative to the Space Industry, himself a graduate of ISU, has been instrumental in developing the space industry on the Island and its relationship with the university. “This sponsorship will give invaluable encouragement to Manx firms to consider sending their brightest and best on courses to develop their understanding,” he said

“The space industry around the world is suffering from a lack of business-trained executives.  We're hoping to give a real advantage to the Island and our companies, both home grown and those who choose to establish here, with this new agreement with ISU.  I know they appreciate the generosity and inspired approach demonstrated by the Manx government in recognising the potential of this developing industry and cannot stress enough the positive message this sends to the international space community as the Island competes to win its business.”
