Licensing opportunity

Professor Pierangelo Metrangolo at the Politecnico di Milano, italy, has developed a highly selective procedure for the separation and purification of α,ω - diiodoperfluoroalkanes of the formula I-(RF)-I, where RF is a perfluoralkyl group with 2 to 12 carbon atoms. The procedure has been patented, and is now available for licensing.

Diiodoperfluoroalkanes are useful chain transfer reagents for the industrial production of fluoroelastomers and in the free radical polymerization of fluorinated vinyl monomers. They are also used as surfactants. An advantageous aspect of the invention, says the university, concerns the possibility to separate pure compounds in complex diiodoperfluoroalkanes’ mixtures both in solution and in the gas phase with very high purity and yield.
