The Czech Technical University’s Faculty of Electrical Engineering has established a Centre for Business Cooperation (CBC) as a gateway serving companies looking to tap into the technical expertise available at the university. The move is in response to increased demand, said Jaroslav Burcik, Director of the CBC. “Lately we have seen a surge of interest in cooperating with the Czech Technical University in research and industrial problem solving,” he said.

The CBC will identify a suitable team of experts at the university to work on a particular industrial problem, and will propose an efficient model for cooperation that meets the requirements of the partners. It will also help scientists to work out the best possible strategy for protecting and commercializing their research results.

Scientists at the university can take advantage of the CBC’s support system to better manage their industrial collaborations and commercialise their know-how and inventions. The range of services offered extends from administrative and legal support to marketing support. “By developing capabilities in these areas, the CBC aims to ease the burden on scientists and spare them difficulties, loss of time and loss of profit,” said Burcik.

The CBC also manages joint research projects linking the university and industry, and seeks out opportunities for grant funding. “The aim of the centre is to strengthen the position of the university as the partner of choice in research collaborations,” said Boris Simak, Dean of the Faculty.

Established in 1707, the Czech Technical University in Prague is one of the oldest technical universities in Europe and with more than 24,000 students it is the biggest in the Czech Republic.
