Norwich Business School and the University of East Anglia, United Kingdom, are running a one-day event called  “Lab to Market” on 15 December 2008 at the John Innes Centre in Norwich. This initiative aimed at helping research scientists and businesses to identify, develop and launch innovative low carbon products and ideas.

Experts in the field of business growth for science and business management Peter White and Hugh Parnell will share their experiences through a series of seminars. Ingrid Holmes of Climate Change Capital and Scion Sprays will also provide advice on how to develop new low carbon technology. The day is free to attend and will end with the possibility for one-to one sessions with the speakers, academics from the university’s Carbon Reduction Programme.

Prof Nikos Tzokas, head of Norwich Business School, said: “We wanted to provide an opportunity for businesses and research scientists to explore innovation within a low carbon context. This is a chance for them to hear from industry leaders and find out how they could develop their ideas and businesses through low carbon innovation.”

Ian Findlater, of May Gurney’s and chair of Shaping Norfolk’s Future Sustainable Prosperity Group, said: “Our key goal is to reduce our carbon footprint, for both our internal operations and the programmes we deliver for our customers. Last year, with ongoing support from our colleagues at the School of Environmental Sciences at the University of East Anglia, we measured our carbon footprint and developed action plans to reduce it with an ultimate goal of carbon neutrality.”

The seminar and workshop session is being funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) and the Faculties of Social Sciences and Science at the University of East Anglia.
