Sweden’s public funding body Industrifonden is investing in QuiQom Systems, a developer of inexpensive, high-speed broadband access in residential properties.

QuiQom’s technology uses the existing central antenna system in apartment blocks to distribute high-performance broadband and IPTV, providing individual properties and apartments with broadband at a reasonable cost. With QuiQom’s technology, whole apartment blocks can easily be connected to the fibre cables running near the property. A subscriber’s modem is then connected through any antenna jack in their apartment.

The Q-LAN technology draws on unused frequency spectrum in the coaxial network already used for cable TV. QuiQom's products give subscribers up to 100 Mbit/s of broadband entertainment per apartment, but the technology has greater potential and the next generation of products is aiming at about 300 Mbit/s. At these speeds, operators will be able to offer both traditional triple play, that is Internet, telephony and television, as well as high-definition internet protocol television.

“QuiQom has a unique technology, a finished product and an experienced team,” said Magnus Fransson, Investment Manager at Industrifonden. “Taken together, this gives the company the potential to reach a large international market.”
