Chalmers sets out to develop strategy for meeting future nanoscience challenges

13 May 2009 | Network Updates

Chalmers University of Technology is to hold the next event in its series of Initiative Seminars on June 1-2, to consider issues emanating from developments in nanoscience. The seminar is part of the Chalmers Initiative, launched by the President of Chalmers in 2007, with the aim of developing strategies for meeting the scientific challenges of the future.

The topic for discussion at the next event is to consider how nanoscience is challenging the traditional division of science into physics, chemistry, biology, materials science, medicine, and so on.

The task of translating today’s nanoscience into tomorrow’s nanotechnology involves the creation of new types of multidisciplinary research environments. The seminar aims to cross-fertilise branches of nano, bio, and medical research, bringing together top scientists from different disciplines, to share ideas and visions and identify key questions that can be answered only through interaction with scientists from other disciplines.

The audience will consist of scientists, students, invited representatives from industry, and members of the public.

The seminar will also be an experiment in how to organise interdisciplinary discussions, with participants from different disciplines facing each other in open discussions.
