Two university technology transfer associations have agreed to collaborate to support UK and Brazilian universities to commercialise innovations.

Two university technology transfer associations, Unico in the UK and FORTEC in Brazil, have agreed to collaborate to support UK and Brazilian universities in their drive to commercialise innovations.

A memorandum of understanding between the two commits them to share best practice in innovation management, facilitate the licensing of Brazilian technology in Europe and the licensing of UK technology in Brazil and support UK spin-out companies wishing to enter the Brazilian market.

The agreement also provides benefits for members of both associations and ensures that all members are entitled to reciprocal membership rights.

The deal has been brokered by UK government officials. Damian Popolo, Vice Consul in Brazil for Science and Innovation, said the memorandum is an important achievement in promoting UK-Brazil collaboration in science and innovation. It aims to create opportunities for members of Unico and FORTEC to work on bilateral licensing and/or the establishment of UK spin-outs in the Brazilian market.
