The international chemical company Dow is building its cooperation with ETH Zurich, setting up a joint research project with Paolo Ermanni, Professor of Structural Technologies.

The project was announced as around 70 researchers from ETH Zurich and Dow met for a half-day symposium at ETH’s Science City. The President of ETH Zurich, Ralph Eichler, and Ernesto Occhiello, Director of Research and Development for Dow Europe, India, Middle East and Africa, presented the strategic focus of their respective organisations with respect to future collaborations, with both noting that in the areas of sustainability, energy efficiency and new materials, there is much potential for joint research.

The joint project with Ermanni’s group is the result of a dialogue and exchange of ideas that took place over the last two years between the leaders of the ETH Zurich and Dow.

Dow is also a partner at the ETH Zurich Foundation, supporting a scholarship as part of the Excellence Scholarship Programme. Niklaus Buhler, manager of industrial collaborations with ETH transfer, welcomed the enhanced cooperation, “Dow Europe, with its headquarters in Horgen, is only a stone’s throw away from the ETH. Both partners can benefit from this proximity in strategically important research fields.”
