Leeds University spin-out Chamelic closes £1m funding round

Chamelic Ltd, a spin-out company from the Leeds University, has closed a £1m fundraising from investors including IP Group plc, Syngenta Ventures, the venture capital arm of the agribusiness Syngenta, and members of Chamelic’s management team.

The company has developed a stay clean surface treatment that prevents the build up of dirt and dust on a wide range of surfaces. The treatment is invisible, easy to apply and reduces the amount of cleaning required.

The product is hydrophilic, meaning any dirt or dust is rinsed away easily without the formation of drying marks on the surface, whilst also being anti-fogging.

Chamelic is selling its first anti-fogging product for use on glass. The new funding will be used develop and launch further products that provide efficiency, maintenance and cosmetic benefits in agricultural applications, solar panels, vehicles, household care products and architectural applications.

Chamelic was formed in 2006 around research carried out by Simon Biggs at the Institute of Particle Science and Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering. Biggs has worked in the area of colloid and particle science for over 20 years, and his particular area expertise is in surface chemistry and particle-surface interactions.
