The Politecnico di Milano and Huawei have instituted scholarships for young researchers in the area of wireless communications.

Umberto Spagnolini, a professor in the Department of Electronics, Information and Bioengineering (DEIB) at the Politecnico, was also honoured by Huawei with the title Huawei Industry Chair, which allows him to conduct joint research for the next 10 years on topics with high industrial and scientific value.

With this decade-long collaboration between the Politecnico and Huawei, the Joint lab was introduced in June 2019 under the guidance of Umberto Spagnolini. Its scope is to carry out advanced research for wireless technologies where undergraduate and PhD students can do their theses under the supervision of professors at the Politecnico and Huawei researchers.

As Prof. Spagnolini explains, "With this grant, the programme in Telecommunications Engineering will be able to offer outstanding young people the opportunity to carry out their teaching and research activities in 5G/6G systems with scholarships and research positions. This new impulse will allow for further growth in skills and innovation at the Joint Lab between the Politecnico di Milano and Huawei."
