Huawei opens Security Innovation Lab in Bonn

Huawei Technologies today officially opened its Security Innovation Lab in Bonn. The opening ceremony was attended by Arne Schönbohm, President of the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI), and Wolfgang Fuchs, City Director of Bonn.

The laboratory will work closely with German customers, partners, research institutions as well as government and supervisory authorities.
 
Within this framework, a close and regular cooperation between the BSI and Huawei is planned and will focus on new technologies (especially 5G, artificial intelligence, IoT and Smart Cities), standardization (like 3GPP) as well as the verification of product safety.
 
Commenting on the opening of the laboratory, BSI President Arne Schönbohm said: "We welcome the opening of this laboratory, which will allow further and deeper technical exchange between Huawei and BSI to address the future challenges of cyber security". 
 
"Huawei and BSI share the same vision: to make the fully interconnected world of the future as secure as possible. Based on this shared vision, we will work closely together to understand and minimize future cyber security risks and build trust through transparency and innovation," said Huawei Rotating Chairman Ken Hu.
 
In an increasingly interconnected world, collaboration is critical to ensuring cyber security. Huawei is committed to joint success within the ICT ecosystem and will work closely with local security agencies and users to address future IT security challenges.
 
The Huawei Security Lab will be located at Huawei's existing site in Bonn and underscores Huawei's focus on long-term investments in cyber security. As a platform, the laboratory aims to explore and standardize industry security standards and specifications, discuss innovative security concepts for future technologies, and facilitate Huawei's collaboration and dialogue with the BSI and industry partners. Close cooperation in addressing future cyber security challenges will form the basis for a better networked world.
 
"Just recently, we founded the Cyber Security Cluster Bonn, which brings together the most important players in business, science and administration. The opening of this Huawei laboratory underscores Bonn's role as an internationally respected hub for leading players in cyber security. We welcome and appreciate Huawei's contribution to digitization in Bonn," said Fuchs, Bonn's city director.
 
In the run-up to the event, North Rhine-Westphalia's Economics and Digital Affairs Minister Andreas Pinkwart declared: "With its locations in Düsseldorf and Bonn, Huawei is a reliable partner for North Rhine-Westphalia. The new laboratory strengthens the region as an important centre for data security nationwide".
