Spain: Patients and doctors have different views on quality of life

Although patient-reported outcomes (PROMs) are being promoted as a way to optimise treatment, it is not clear that patients and doctors agree on how PROMs are interpreted.

Researchers at the Hematology Department at Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau in Barcelona surveyed doctors and patients, finding doctors tend to underestimate the importance of 50 per cent of the parameters associated with patients’ wellbeing, and in particular of emotional and social factors that affect their quality of life.
