A European Commission report describes ten examples of the implementation of big data in health from across member states and sets out policy recommendations for improving the performances of European healthcare systems

A European Commission report describes ten examples of the implementation of big data in health from across member states and sets out policy recommendations for improving the performances of European healthcare systems in ten different fields of eHealth development, including data analysis and governance of data access and use, open data and data sharing.

From the report: ‘Applications may either be prospective data monitoring or retrospective data analysis and may contribute to increasing the effectiveness and quality of treatments by e.g. earlier disease intervention,  reduced probability of adverse reactions to medicines...cross-linkage of health care providers and professionals.. the improvement of pharmacovigilance and patient safety through the ability to make more informed medical decisions based on directly delivered information to the patients, and prediction of outcomes’.
