Horizon Europe: How will the Green Deal reshape European R&D?

Private Science|Business Network FP Working Group meeting (16:00 – 17:00 CET) followed by a Network meeting (17:15 – 18:15 CET)

The European Green Deal is one of the signature initiatives of the current Commission, and a vital part of the EU’s long-term plan to achieve climate neutrality and industrial transformation by 2050. Nonetheless, its scale and scope have been brought into question by the COVID-19 crisis and related turmoil in Europe’s economies and societies.

Against this backdrop, the Commission is preparing to launch a special €1 billion R&I funding programme under Horizon 2020, covering eight thematic and three horizontal areas. Looking further ahead, however, how will the Green Deal influence the design and objectives for Horizon Europe? Will prospective cuts to the next Framework Programme’s budget lead to a change in priorities, and what should Europe’s R&I communities expect once Horizon finally launches in 2021?

In this private, online meeting, Science|Business Network members will have the opportunity to explore these in greater depth, and discuss practical next steps to engage with the Commission’s upcoming call and longer-term objectives.
