Health is a strategic asset. The EU budget should treat it as such, sector leaders tell policymakers

The EU invests significant amounts of money in health, but these scattered investments are failing to support health as a strategic asset, according to public and private stakeholders.
“There's a need for very efficient spending,” says Anne Bucher, non-residential fellow at the Bruegel think tank and a former director-general for health and food safety at the European Commission. “Right now, the way it is done is that each project has its rationale, but it is not thought [through] strategically [to] maximise the impact of the funding on the resilience of health systems.”
Bucher speaks on behalf the EU Expert Advisory Group of the Partnership for Health System Sustainability and Resilience (PHSSR), which brings together the WHO Foundation, the World Economic Forum, AstraZeneca, Philips, the London School of Economics and the Center for Asia-Pacific Resilience and Innovation.
