Project managers in large collaborative projects get the short end of the stick. The indispensable administrative work they carry out may be a burden, but it’s thanks to them that projects deliver.
Yet, there are few incentives and little recognition of their efforts. In many research organisations and in Horizon Europe, the role is not well defined, training is scarce and the career path uncertain. In many institutions, there is no dedicated support or funding for project managers.
This is the case for managers of collaborative projects funded by the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) programme in Horizon Europe.
