US corportion Teledyne Technologies Inc has announced that its UK subsidiary, Teledyne Limited, has completed the acquisition of the Defence Electronics business of Leeds University spin-out Filtronic plc for £13. The Defence Electronics business, principally based in Shipley, United Kingdom, provides customised microwave subassemblies and integrated subsystems to the global defence industry.

The acquisition, says Teledyne, adds expertise in receiver subsystems and digital signal processing and is consistent with the company’s strategy to provide more highly integrated microwave subsystems to defence customers.

Filtronic’s Defense Electronics business designs and manufactures a range of microwave products for radar, electronic support measures and electronic counter measures systems used to protect modern military platforms from hostile threats. The business delivers complex microwave receiver front-end subsystems, including Instantaneous Frequency Measurement (IFM) based subsystems and customised multifunction assemblies. The Defence Electronics business had sales of £14.5 million for its fiscal year ended 31 May 2008.
