The University Board at Stockholm University decided on 28 April that Jane Reichel will become the new Vice President of Stockholm University. She will take office on 1 July 2025 and succeeds Clas Hättestrand, whose appointment expires on 30 June.

“It will be very exciting to work with academic values on a comprehensive level, from international exchanges, national and regional collaborations, to the quality of our own research and education,” says Jane Reichel.

A Vice President is a deputy to a President at Swedish universities, and the Vice President serves in the President’s place when he or she is not in office, and may also have own areas of responsibility.

What do you hope to contribute to?

“Questions about translating academic ideals and administrative law regulations into efficient, secure and effective operations interest me both as a researcher and as an academic leader, which I hope will be useful.”

Jane Reichel is a professor in administrative law and has been at the Faculty of Law at Stockholm University since 2018 and since 2024 she has been Dean of the same faculty. Her research focuses on what globalization in general and Europeanization in particular mean for the administration, its role within the state and in relation to the EU and other organizations. She also teaches administrative law and to some extent EU law, at a basic and advanced level.

“Among several highly qualified candidates, professor Jane Reichel stands out as the best candidate and the one who has best fulfilled the requirement profile”, says Helena Jäderblom, chair of the University Board.

The University Board at Stockholm University agreed unanimously on the decision to appoint Professor Jane Reichel as Vice President for the period from 1 July 2025 to 30 June 2031.
