Bid to refocus the European Institute of Innovation and Technology on competitiveness follows its absence from draft Horizon Europe plan

The governing board of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) is making last-ditch attempt to save the EU innovation agency following mounting criticism of its role and structure. Signs that the EIT has fallen out of favour culminated last week in its absence from a leaked draft of the next EU research and innovation Framework Programme.
The governing board’s response is a vision paper released on July 14 that pitches an “EIT 2.0 for a leap in competitiveness.” It proposes a simplified, streamlined version of the EU agency, which currently supports nine (soon to be ten) sector-specific knowledge and innovation communities (KICs) around Europe.
