In an exclusive interview, Caroline Viarouge outlines a potential way forward for the bankrupt manufacturing innovation community

After filing for liquidation, EIT Manufacturing is looking to establish a new legal entity to ensure it can carry on backing innovation projects in a critical field for Europe’s economic competitiveness. But it will need political support in Brussels, chief executive Caroline Viarouge told Science|Business.
“We have some partners who are willing to take part of this endeavour. We have an opportunity to use this ecosystem in a new model, but we need to understand if the EIT is willing to support this new model,” Viarouge said. However, the future of EIT Manufacturing remains uncertain as its leadership scrambles to convince decision makers in Brussels that they should be allowed to continue under a reformed governance system.
