MSCA’s €30 million call is the latest step in the EU’s ambition to become a world leader in AI for science

The European Commission has opened its first ever €30 million call for transnational doctoral training programmes focused on AI in science. The goal is to train young scientists who will then be able to develop AI systems and tools that can be integrated into their disciplines.
The call is embedded in Horizon Europe’s Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) and its doctoral networks programme, which has been funding organisations to jointly train PhD students for years.
Usually, the MSCA doctoral network calls are bottom-up, with topics generated by the scientific community. In this case, the proposals may also focus on any field of science, but applicant consortia must show how their programmes nurture talent needed to advance the use of AI in science.
