The construction of the second phase of the biotechnology cluster at the Arenberg Science Park is almost complete. K.U.Leuven, AVEVE, the Flemish Institute for Biotechnology (VIB) and Life Sciences Research Partners (LSRP) are building a second Bio-incubator with the support of the European Fund for Regional Development (ERDF). The importance of this infrastructure for the Flemish biotechnology sector will be highlighted during the official site visit to Bio-incubator 2 on 27 May.

The first stone of the first Leuven Bio-incubator at the Arenberg Science Park was laid in 2005. Six young companies are now headquartered in Bio-incubator 1. The second Bio-incubator, providing 3,000 m² of new space, offers switchable, multifunctional labs of 125 m² at safety level L2. ERDF has made a maximum of 1,970,470 euro available for the construction of Bio-incubator 2.

The Leuven Bio-incubator provides multifunctional, ventilated lab space, conference rooms and equipped office space tailored to the needs of young R&D-oriented companies. The great advantage of Bio-incubator is that it offers spaces that can grow and develop with such companies. In addition to the services of a business centre, the Leuven Bio-incubator offers general and technical, logistical and environment-technical support. This broad support package was developed thanks to the support of ERDF and the Hermes Fund. ERDF contributed 65,680 euro, while the Hermes Fund made 73,890 euro available.
