Sustainable protein production: Technology Strategy Board collaborative R&D competition

We are supporting the sustainable protein production collaborative call for research and development as part of the Sustainable Agriculture and Food Innovation Platform (SAF IP).

Summary

The competition opens on 4 April 2011 and will have two interrelated themes:
Increasing domestic supply of sustainably produce vegetable protein for farm animals (including land and marine based aquaculture) 
Increasing production efficiency and sustainability of domestically supplied animal and fish proteins for food, reducing waste in the food chain to the point of retail sale.
Projects should be business-led and seek to develop new products and processes.

We encourage the academic community to participate in this competition, in collaboration with at least one UK based company.

Workshops

To facilitate interactions between communities, a series of one day consortium building workshops will be hosted by the Technology Strategy Board and the Bioscience KTN. These will provide a networking forum for potential participants to facilitate the development of project ideas.

The workshops will be held this year at the following venues:

11 February -  SAC, Edinburgh

15 February - Celtic Manor Hotel, Newport

17 February - PGRO, Peterborough
