One of Europe’s leading mobile network equipment suppliers is to transfer its product engineering and R&D services to the Indian IT company.

One of Europe’s leading mobile network equipment suppliers, Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN), is to transfer its product engineering and R&D services to the Indian IT company Tata Consultancy Services in a multi-million euro agreement.

The deal, which also takes in parts of the operations and business software activities of NSN, will see Tata take on responsibility for NSN’s development centre in Düsseldorf, Germany. Ninety staff will be transferred to the Indian company.

Tata’s brief will be to provide global R&D services to NSN. The move is part of an overall strategy to reduce costs through outsourcing.

“For many years, Tata Consultancy Services has been a valuable partner to Nokia and Siemens, our parent companies. [Tata] brings to the table an in-depth experience in outsourcing projects and a proven track record of successfully transferring and integrating customers’ R&D personnel. This deal provides the employees in Düsseldorf with an excellent opportunity to work with international teams in a global company,” said Juhani Hintikka, Head of the Operations and Business Software Business Unit, Nokia Siemens Networks.
