Exploring how Europe can become more competitive and drive growth

04 Oct 2024 |

As the global race for technological leadership intensifies, the AI, Data and Robotics Forum will highlight Europe's potential to lead in AI, data and robotics—key sectors that will shape the foundation of its digital and economic sovereignty.

In an era where technology underpins every aspect of our lives—from communication and healthcare to defence and economic stability— Europe needs to be able to stand on its own in this domain. Europe's technological advancement and self-reliance are key to protect its strategic independence and uphold its values.

To be held on November 4-5 at the Evoluon in Eindhoven, the second edition of the AI, Data, and Robotics Forum (ADRF) will explore Europe’s ability to independently innovate, produce and secure its technological infrastructure. The Forum will be hosted by the AI, Data and Robotics Association (ADRA) in collaboration with the European Commission, local host AiNed with the support of the ADRA-e project.

The event will take place at a time when the global race for technological leadership is intensifying, and Europe finds itself trailing. Without swift and enhanced support for critical technologies, Europe risks falling behind in growth and competitiveness across all sectors. This lag could undermine the region’s strong track record in sustainability and inclusion.

To remain competitive and resilient, Europe must prioritise its digital transformation in a way that aligns with its values—ensuring inclusivity, fairness and protection for all citizens. By seizing this moment, Europe can maintain its leadership in global innovation while ensuring that its technological progress benefits everyone, leaving no one behind.

Building on Europe’s existing strengths

Europe possesses key advantages that can drive its competitive edge. First, Europe’s renewable energy, aerospace and advanced manufacturing sectors are global leaders and can serve as a springboard for emerging tech talent. Additionally, Europe excels in frontier technologies, such as quantum computing and cybersecurity, positioning itself well for leadership in critical future innovations.

AI development in Europe has unique potential, as it can be tailored to fit the continent's diverse market, linguistic and cultural landscape. The increasing interconnectivity of European tech ecosystems is strengthening talent attraction and retention, fostering collaboration across borders. Moreover, purpose-driven technology is on the rise, aligning with the values of founders and consumers, while reflecting Europe’s commitment to sustainability and ethical standards.

These milestones, along with efforts by the ADRA community to chart a course for the future, signal that Europe is capable of catching up, and even setting the standard in tech development. By capitalising on these strengths, Europe can create a more resilient and innovative technological landscape.

Be the change you want to stimulate

Attendees at the ADRF in Eindhoven will gain insights into emerging topics and trends in industry, as well as across society, and be able to connect with like-minded organisations and individuals to drive progress.

The programme will feature visionary keynotes and thought-provoking panels on European sovereignty in ADR; a marketplace of ideas on how to efficiently stimulate a robust digital economy where Europe leads globally in technological standards and practices, while derisking its digital infrastructure from external dependencies. Furthermore, the event aims to share know-how throughout the community in exhibitions, presentations and industry conversations.

At the second edition of the ADRF, participants will be able to:

  • Share expert visions on the EU landscape on generative AI and foundation models (including LLMs) and contribute your insights for consideration for future funding programmes, policy developments and putting Europe on a trajectory for success.
  • Immerse yourself in the priorities, opportunities and blue-ocean strategies for Europe to position itself as a world leader in AI, data and robotics. Take a leadership role in this context and contribute to expert panels and roundtables and make a difference.
  • Lead and establish synergies between stakeholder communities to move the European AI, data and robotics agenda forward and help leverage the intersection between technologies. Learn new insights and develop your own capacities from others and reach your research and business goals.
  • Discuss, exchange and elaborate on the vision and the challenges brought by accelerating these technologies to our society and collaborate with partners to move the needle on Europe’s competitiveness.

Following the event, actionable insights will be developed to shape the research, innovation, and policy roadmap for the coming years, supporting Europe's ambitions for technological independence. Together, we will lay the foundation for a responsible AI-powered digital transformation, aligned with European values of fairness, inclusivity, and sustainability.

Be part of this transformative journey towards a more prosperous, secure, and resilient Europe. We look forward to welcoming you as we explore the possibilities of AI, data, and robotics, and their potential to shape a brighter future for all.
