The European Parliament will push for a more independent European Research Council (ERC) than proposed by the European Commission when negotiations begin for the next Horizon Europe programme. Draft reports from the two lead Parliamentary rapporteurs on the legislation, released last week, both use strong language to defend the ERC’s researcher-driven nature.
“This proposal is an unnecessary attack from the Commission on the autonomy of the ERC; we cannot stand for this,” Christian Ehler, told Science|Business.
