Volvo Group educates Göteborg University’s students on IT

Volvo Information Technology AB, a subsidiary of AB Volvo's, said it has agreed to establish a mentoring programme with Göteborg University in an effort to boost Western Sweden's IT sector.

Under the agreement, Volvo IT and GöteborgUniversity will set up a joint forum to manage the activities and it has an indefinite term.

 “We will have trainees and start off with 10 mentors working for IT to support the students,” said Ann-Louise Öhrn, Vice President Corporate Communications of Volvo IT, in an interview. “The goal is to have a more frequent dialogue with the students and it’s more about man-hour investment. The students can do their studies with real cases within the Volvo group.”

Volvo IT provides services from product development and manufacturing to sales, the aftermarket and administration including IT operations and infrastructure to AB Volvo, Ford Motor Company, Volvo Car Corporation, Nobel Biocare, SCA and Skandia. Volvo IT's global activities registered sales of SEK 7 billion in 2005, and the company employed 6,000 people in Europe, North America, South America and Asia.
