MRC Technology, the technology transfer arm of the UK’s Medical Research Council is launching a series of quarterly showcases to discuss the latest discoveries made by the council's scientists with pharmaceutical and biotech companies that could have an interest in commercialising them.

The aim is to highlight research which will fuel the next generation of healthcare products.

MRC Technology says each showcase will give a limited number of scientists from pharmaceutical and biotech companies “unprecedented access” to the latest research being undertaken in its publicly funded units and institutes. At each event key experts will give talks and poster sessions describing the latest thinking in specific areas of research.

Places on the showcase programme are limited, to give an opportunity for MRC researchers to work closely with a focused group of scientists from industry. And they are not cheap either, with attendance at a single event costing £10,000, while a Platinum membership costing £30,000 will secure attendance at the four quarterly showcases scheduled to date.

The first event, to be held at London Zoo on 7 and 8 December, will outline advances in neurosciences and mental health.
