The UK agri-food giant Tate & Lyle has chosen Lille, France, as the site for its new European research and development centre, which will be responsible for developing ingredients for so-called functional foods.

The company will invest €4 million in the centre, which will employ 50 scientists.

Lille was chosen out of a short list of three possible locations in continental Europe. The deal was secured with the help of NFX, the investment promotion agency for northern France, and its partners APIM, the Lille development agency, and Eurasanté, the Lille life sciences agency.
