Scotland’s bioscience network extends its reach

Nexxus, the network that supports development stage life science companies in the west of Scotland, secured funding to continue its activities for a further three years and announced it is extending its activities to support companies in the east of the country around Edinburgh.

This expansion will be funded by the European Development Fund, the Scottish Government, Scottish Enterprise, the Edinburgh Science Triangle and the Glasgow:Edinburgh Collaboration.

Nexxus was set up in 2003 to underpin communication, knowledge sharing and collaboration between organisations involved in life sciences and to raise the profile the west of Scotland as centre for life sciences. Since its inception, the organisation has brought together over 2,000 individuals from academia, industry and the health service, both formally and informally.

Barry Shafe, Project Director of the Edinburgh Science Triangle, set up to bring together the universities, councils, science parks and Scottish Enterprise in the city said, “Networking is key to creating connections and we have been impressed by the structured and targeted approach by Nexxus and it made sense to work together.”

The success of Nexxus in fostering relations across the sector was demonstrated in an independent audit carried out earlier this year by consultancy, Biggar Economics.
