Prof. Susan te Pas has been appointed dean of the Faculty of Science by the Executive Board of the University of Amsterdam. The appointment will take effect on 1 July 2025 and is for a period of five years. Te Pas will also be appointed professor at the Faculty of Science. She is currently dean of University College Utrecht and professor of Cognitive Psychology of Higher Education at Utrecht University.

The appointment was made in consultation with the Faculty Works Council and the Faculty Student Council.

The dean is responsible for the overall management of the faculty. An important task for Te Pas lies in the further development and implementation of the faculty's multi-year plan, which focuses on a stable and financially healthy future for the Faculty of Science.

'I am very pleased that Susan te Pas, with all her administrative experience, will take on the position of dean of the Faculty of Science,' says Edith Hooge, president of the Executive Board and chair of the appointment advisory committee. 'Susan has a cross-disciplinary perspective on science and extensive knowledge of higher education. She is someone who can make clear choices, while always seeking connection and support. With her vision for the future, she can keep the Faculty of Science on course and help steer it through challenging times.'

Susan te Pas: ‘I am very much looking forward to starting at this wonderful faculty. What I find attractive about the Faculty of Science is its breadth and its focus on a more technological profile. I would like to focus on strengthening the cooperation between disciplines and with the outside world. Of course, there is also a substantial financial task ahead, which I look forward to tackling together with the institutes and schools.’
