Professor Hans Adolfsson, currently President at Umeå University, has been appointed new President at Stockholm University by the Swedish Government.
“I am very grateful to be entrusted and I humbly look forward to taking on the presidency of Stockholm University, my Alma Mater where I once began my academic studies”, says Hans Adolfsson.
The Swedish Government decided on Thursday the 5th of December that Hans Adolfsson will be appointed new President at Stockholm University. He takes up office on the 1st of February 2025.
“I would like to wish Hans Adolfsson the best of luck as President of Stockholm University. Hans has a solid experience from the higher education sector, which makes him well suited for this assignment”, says Minister for Education Johan Pehrson (L) in the Government’s press release.
Hans Adolfsson is a professor of organometallic chemistry and is currently President at Umeå University, a position he has held since 2016. He is also Chair of the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institutions (SUHF) and Deputy Chair of the Swedish Foundation for International Cooperation in Research and Higher Education (STINT). Hans Adolfsson received his PhD at KTH, he has been a postdoc in the USA and has worked at Stockholm University as a teacher and researcher, including several years as Section Dean and Vice President.
The University Board at Stockholm University agreed unanimously to propose to the Swedish Government to employ Professor Hans Adolfsson as President for the period from the 1st of February 2025 to the 31st of March 2031. On December the 5th, 2024, the Swedish Government finalized the decision.
Hans Adolfsson succeeds Astrid Söderbergh Widding, whose appointment as President expires on the last of January 2025. Hans Adolfsson will take up office on the 1st of February 2025.
