UvA spin-off company Confocal.nl has secured a vital investment from Value Creation Capital. The investment will give Confocal.nl the opportunity to grow further.

Confocal.nl was founded in 2016 by UvA researcher Erik Manders and Peter Drent, former general manager of Nikon Instruments Europe, in partnership with UvA Ventures Holding. The spin-off’s mission was to launch the Re-scan Confocal Microscope onto the market. Some years earlier, Manders invented this microscope and built and developed it with his research team at the UvA’s Swammerdam Institute for Life Sciences (SILS).

Manders: ‘Over the past two years we’ve sucessfully managed to bring our first product onto the market and sell it all over the world. By attracting a substantial investment from Value Creation Capital, we now have the opportunity to continue growing. For example, we will soon be establishing our offices in the Matrix Innovation Center at Amsterdam Science Park, where we will have more space for our sales and R&D teams.’ After twenty years at the UvA, Erik Manders will leave the university to focus fully on Confocal.nl.
