Earlier in June, Australia officially signed a deal to associate to part of Horizon Europe, the EU’s research and innovation programme.
This means that Canberra will pay into Horizon Europe’s budget, and in return, Australia-based researchers will be able to bid for money on a largely equal playing field to Europeans, and receive money directly from the EU, making participation much less of a bureaucratic hassle.
