This week sees €35 million offered for disruptive innovation projects led by SMEs and research organisations

The European Commission will launch two bottom-up calls for defence innovation this week, to be funded as part of the €8 billion European Defence Fund (EDF).
The total funding pot for the calls, due to open on April 15, is €62 million. Applicants may propose any defence-related innovations, but ideas should be in line with the target investment areas of the EU’s Strategic Technologies for Europe Platform, such as biotechnology, digital and resource-efficient innovation.
One of calls will fund research projects led by SMEs and research organisations that have disruptive innovation potential in any area of defence, reaching at least technology readiness level 4. These projects may build on civilian innovations that can be adapted and applied in defence.
